Join us for a brand new class where you’ll learn the basics of Fabric Pleating.

Pleating is traditional craft which enables the application of sculptural form, volume and pattern to fabric. It uses cardboard moulds to achieve intricate and precise folds which are made permanent through the use of steam or heat.

During this day-long course, we will start by looking at the history of pleating and its various applications, before going on to create a collection of pleated samples. Through demonstration, practice and experimentation, we will work with several patterns ranging from simple parallel folds to more complex herringbone pleats.

There will be variety of fabrics available to you including viscose, felt, linen and silk and there will be plenty of time to try out different moulds, patterns and fabric types.

You will also make several hand folded cardboard moulds (with the help of templates) which can be taken home and re-used for further projects.

At the end of the day you will leave with impressive array of pleated samples, a set of re-useable moulds and all the necessary skills and confidence to continue to pleat at home.

Places limited to 6 people (over 18s only)

All materials, fabric and tool will be provided (you are also more than welcome to bring along any fabric samples of your own you would like to pleat)

Tea/Coffee/Refreshments will be provided but please bring lunch with you.

Please note that bookings are non-refundable unless I am able to find a replacement.
