An Introduction to Fabric Pleating - Sat 25 April - Off the Rails Arthouse, Cupar

£100.00

VENUE: Off the Rails Arthouse, Victoria St, Ladybank, Cupar KY15 7JT

Date: Saturday 25 April (10 - 4pm)

Level: Beginners & Intermediate

Join us a day of creative adventure where you’ll dive into the beautiful, sculptural world of pleats.

Pleating is a traditional craft which enables the application of sculptural form, volume and pattern to fabric. It uses cardboard moulds to achieve intricate and precise folds which are made permanent through the use of steam or heat.

During this brand new day-long course, we’ll start by looking at the history of pleating and its various applications (eg. Issey Miyake) before going on to create a collection of unique pleated samples.

From simple accordion folds to more intricate herringbone patterns, we’ll explore lots of different pleat styles. You’ll experiment with heat and steam to make your pleats permanent, and even make your own reusable moulds to take home.

There will be variety of fabrics available for you to use including viscose, felt, linen and silk and there will be plenty of time to try out different moulds and patterns.

At the end of the day you will leave with an impressive array of samples, a set of re-useable moulds and all the necessary skills and confidence to continue to pleat at home.

All materials, fabric and tool will be provided (you are also more than welcome to bring along any fabric samples of your own you would like to pleat).

Tea/Coffee/Refreshments will be provided but please bring lunch with you.

Places limited to 8 people (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult)
